Cops shot in cold blood

Johannesburg - Two police officers were killed on duty in Kraaifontein, Cape Town, on Sunday, Western Cape police said.

Lieutenant Colonel Andre Traut said the officers were "gunned down in cold blood while attending a routine compliant at an informal dwelling situated in Wallacedene, Kraaifontein" just after 01:00.

He said they attended a complaint on the corners of Pedro and Boesak streets, and soon after their arrival they were approached by an armed group of people.

The 39-year-old warrant officer and the 23-year-old student constable were both shot in the head and robbed of their service pistols.

Traut said the suspects fled the scene and were not yet arrested.

Provincial Commissioner of the Western Cape Police, Lieutenant General Arno Lamoer, urged community members to come forward with any information that could help in the investigation of the case.

"We will not stop our search for these killers, until we find them," Lamoer said.
