Eight people, including a nine-month-old baby, burnt to death when their home was allegedly set alight in Pinetown, outside Durban on Monday, KwaZulu-Natal police said.
Lieutenant Colonel Vincent Mdunge said police suspect the eight were first shot, their home then doused with petrol and set alight.
“We found empty petrol containers, match sticks outside the house. I was told 9mm pistol cartridges were also discovered inside the house, but fire experts are still busy in there.”
The deceased were identified as: Coshela Mabhida, 48, Sindi Mabhida, 25 and her nine-month-old daughter Andiswa.
The others were named as Owami Mabhida, 6, Siphesihle Mabhida, 7, Njabulo Mabhida, 9, Nelisiwe Khumalo, 16, and Angelina Mabhida, 68.
