Family pleads for help to find student, 20

Duncan Allan

Two weeks after Pretoria University student Duncan Allan, 20, went missing, his family have made an impassioned plea for his return.

"Please let someone tell us where our boy is. We want our boy back, we want him home," said Allan's father, Tim.

Allan was last seen at a car repair shop in Lynnwood, Pretoria, where he went to pick up his 1994 VW Jetta on July 18.

The star student, who obtained six distinctions in his matric year at King Edward VII School in Johannesburg, has not been seen or heard from since.

Senior detectives and investigators of a private security firm, Specialised Services Group, have been working on the case .

This week, police combed Allan's small flat at Olienhout hostel. An investigator said his cellphone had not been switched on since he disappeared, neither had any money been withdrawn from his bank account.

Up to 30 of his friends and fellow students have been questioned and investigators have found "vital clues". "There are a number of students who admitted to using recreational drugs ... we believe all the information gathered will lead us to Duncan's whereabouts," said a source .

Allan, a third-year BCom investment management student, is also a keen musician. Tim Allan said his son was under pressure after scoring lower marks in his exams. "He has been writing music and composing musicals for the hostel, which took up a lot of his time," he said.

Investigators are probing a possible link between his disappearance and that of 29-year-old Gerrie van Rensburg, who went missing in Pretoria on Tuesday. It was at first believed Van Rensburg was hijacked, but it has since been found he went on a drug binge.

Warrant Officer Denny Phatshwane, the investigating officer in the Allan case, said: "We are hopeful of making a breakthrough soon."
