FCS MOUNT ROAD CLUSTER ARRESTED A THIRD SUSPECT IN A CASE OF RAPE OF A 14-YEAR-OLD GIRL

Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit (FCS) in Port Elizabeth arrested a third suspect in a case of rape of a 14-year-old girl, in Port Elizabeth.

During February 2012, Capt Sanet Winter from FCS investigated the case of rape and the guardian and her boyfriend were arrested one week after the case was reported. The 14-year-old girl and her 10-year-old brother were removed from the care of the guardian and placed with family outside the Eastern Cape.  The two are still in custody and the bail application hearing will continue on 4 April 2012. At the first bail application information on a third suspect was divulged and during the investigation a second victim, a nine-year-old girl at the time of the rape, was also identified.  Capt Sanet Winter made contact with the family and another case of rape was reported whereby all three suspects were implicated.

FCS identified the third suspect and received information of the suspect’s hide out.  On 3 April 2012, with the assistance of FCS Delft in Cape Town, the third suspect was arrested.  The 48-year-old suspect is being detained at Cape Town Central Police Station on two cases of rape.  Arrangements are being made to transfer him to Port Elizabeth.
