According to Roy Rawlins, managing director of ADT Central, a man was watching TV in his lounge at around 6.30pm when the four men entered the room and held him at gunpoint. The suspects had gained entry by climbing over the wall and forcing open the sliding door.
The man’s wife was on the phone to her son at the time and she quickly relayed the message to him that there were intruders in the house. He immediately notified ADT Security and the police. ADT reaction officers Andrew Nxumalo, Daniel Hlatswayo and Johnathan Mahada were dispatched to the property.
Together with the Sandton police they found the suspects still inside the house. The suspect broke the glass window leading into the garden and tried to flee the scene. Three were apprehended in the garden and the fourth was shortly arrested in 8th Street.
Several items that had been stolen from the house were recovered.
