Hijacking gang caught in Soweto

A group of men linked to a spate of hired car hijackings in Soweto were arrested on Tuesday, Gauteng police said.

“We were taken by one of them to see the stolen car but it had already been removed by the others. We pretended to be potential buyers and when they came back, we arrested them,” Warrant Officer Kay Makhubele said.

The men, aged 25 to 37, were linked to cars hijacked in Dobsonville, Moroka and Jabulani.

“It seems the group were targeting hired cars. The car we found today was hired by a political organisation from Budget.”

They would appear in Roodepoort Magistrate's Court on Wednesday. -
