Muldersdrift, Gauteng - An increase in violent crimes in Muldersdrift will have a direct impact on jobs, the Gauteng economic development department said on Tuesday.

“There are thousands of jobs that stem directly and indirectly from tourism and leisure in this area and its surroundings,” said economic development spokeswoman Phindile Kunene in a statement.

“The department is concerned that these unfortunate incidents will have a direct impact on jobs generated by tourism, leisure and related business operations in the area.”

Kunene appealed to businesses and residents to work with police to reduce crime. The Cradle of Humankind and several other tourism spots are located in the area.

Last Thursday, a 50-year-old man was robbed and killed in Muldersdrift.

A second robbery was reported to police on the same day.

In an incident last week, a 13-year-old girl, her 17-year-old sister, and their father were shot and robbed by a group of robbers outside their home in Muldersdrift. The 13-year-old girl died. - Sapa
