Robber shot while fleeing

Alberton - A man was shot and wounded on Tuesday while fleeing from security guards after a housebreaking in Alberton, south of Johannesburg, Gauteng police said.

The guards were responding to an alarm in Dreyer Street, South Crest, when they spotted a man forcing his way out of a house by breaking the kitchen window, Captain Pinky Tsinyane said.

“He was carrying a bag with him when he tried to escape.”

The guards shot him after he ignored their order to stop running. A portable radio and jewellery box containing bracelets, necklaces, and earrings, worth about R5000, were found in his possession.

The 30-year-old man was taken to a local hospital. He was expected to appear in the Palm Ridge Magistrate's Court soon. - Sapa
