Shootout after car stolen in Woodmead

Police were looking for three men after they stole a brand new Nissan vehicle during a shootout with police on Tuesday in Woodmead, northern Joburg

“Just before noon ... two police officers on their foot beat for the festive season were approached by a Nissan employee,” Captain Kim Cloete said.

The employee told police three men were busy stealing a car from a nearby dealership in Woodmead. When the two officers approached the men, the thieves fired shots at the policemen.

During the shootout the men managed to break into the Nissan and start it. They fled in the car while they exchanged fire with police. No one was injured.

Cloete said police were investigating and searching for the stolen vehicle. – Sapa
