Trio crimes rampant in Honeydew

The case of seven men who ransacked and robbed a women's house in Cosmo City lifted the lid on the reality of crime in the Honeydew police precinct.

And the report from the police warned of the increase of trio crimes in the area.
According to Honeydew police spokesman Warrant Officer Karen Jacobs, the woman was fetching water from an outside tap when two armed men approached her.

"They instructed her to go back into the house. Five more men entered followed and began ransacking the house before helping themselves to her money and electrical equipment."

Jacobs also referred to another similar case reported in Struben's Valley where a domestic worker was held by four unknown men.

"The men outsmarted the woman and claimed they were sent to do measurements.
"When she asked to confirm with the house owner, they grabbed her and pulled her into the house.

The men tied her up and stole property from the house."

In another incident, three men masquerading as police officials hijacked a man driving along Beyers Naude Drive.

"The complainant alleged a white VW Golf 5 pulled him off the road. Thinking it was the police stopping him, as the car was flicking its lights and blowing a siren, he co-operated.

"He claimed a man dressed in a police uniform and a reflective jacket approached him and asked for his driver's license. The 'police' then instructed the complainant to walk with him to their vehicle."

Jacobs said the suspect pushed the complainant into the vehicle where two other men, also in police uniform were waiting.

"They drove off with the complainant and dropped him off at Boundary Road. They fled with their vehicle and the bakkie," said Jacobs.

"Residential robberies, carjacking and business robberies are on the increase and we urge residents to be aware at all times," warned Jacobs.
