Woman shot on Grabouw farm

A 59-year-old woman is in a critical condition after she was shot at her home on a farm in Grabouw – the second farm attack in three days.

Agri Wes-Cape said the Grabouw community was shocked by the incident.
It said Shirleen Booysen had been brutally attacked on Blaawkrans farm on Monday evening and was in a critical condition in hospital.
Provincial police spokesman Lieutenant-Colonel André Traut said last night that the incident was believed to have been an attempted robbery.
The woman had been taken to a Ceres hospital in a serious condition, Traut said.
It was not yet clear what was missing from the house, but the circumstances were being investigated.
The police are investigating a case of attempted robbery.
The attack follows one in Malmesbury on Friday during which a farmer and his girlfriend were attacked with a steel pipe and an axe in the early hours of the morning.
On Tuesday Agri Wes-Cape commended the local police stations and the police’s Rural Safety Units on Tuesday for their quick response times to both attacks.
However, Carl Opperman, chief executive of Agri Wes-Cape, said: “
We cannot just accept that people are attacked.
“We expect the government and especially law enforcement officers to do everything in their power to ensure a safe living and work environment for everyone in this province, as well as the rest of the country, and that perpetrators will be held accountable for their deeds in no uncertain terms.” - Cape Argus
